Esther Duflo is a Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. She has been the recipient of the Elaine Bennett Prize for Research. Duflo was a Sloan Fellow, a John M. Olin Faculty Fellow and an Alfred P. Sloan Doctoral Dissertation Fellow. She is the Founding Editor of The American Journal: Applied Economics and co-Editor of the Review of Economics and Statistics. Duflo is also the Director of the Development Economics Program and the Development Program at the Center for Economic Policy Research, as well as a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research. Her work includes randomized evaluations of policies to promote agricultural productivity in Kenya. Duflo has also examined the impact of women and lower caste members of village councils in India.
